Build rap instrumental bases using samples, scratchs and percussive elements. This is the function of the beatmaker, a kind of music builder who uses machines like the classic MPC. Now imagine gathering 12 beatmakers and, along with them, DJs, instrumentalists and key voices of contemporary music to perform live rereading of Brazilian music classics?
It was with this in mind that DJs Rafa Jazz and Bruno Borges aka DJ NGS, owners of Casa Brasilis, home of the weekly BeatBrasilis Beatmakers Meeting (held since 2014), decided to create the world's first beatmakers orchestra. The BeatBrasilis Orquestra makes its debut on October 20th, in a free presentation in the center of São Paulo, as part of the program of CUCA & #8211; Urban Cultures, Artistic Connections, project of the Municipal Secretariat of Culture of São Paulo.
Beats and visual arts in a unique experience
“The idea is to form an electronic beat orchestra with 12 beatmakers that use various platforms like MPC, SP, Maschine, etc., and together with them DJ, violinist and voices, so that together and organically create a collaborative sound experience in the middle. samples of Brazilian songs, beats, scratchs, sound noises and poetry. The projection sets the scene, with images that mix São Paulo's urban lifestyle with real-time sampling of what the beatmakers are doing live, ”says Rafa Jazz, one of the project's creators.
The BeatBrasilis Orchestra's debut show takes place at Praça das Artes (near Anhangabaú Valley), open-air for all ages and with free admission. Two great singers of the current scene will make surprise participation in the show.
The opening goes with the “Beats Improvision”. Beatmakers Heitor Neto, DJ Andersom and Diazz release live beats in freestyle, while Bboy & TTP, Denis, Pico, Nakatu and the powerful women of the Battle of Domination perform.
