Who said the cassette died? It remains alive and growing, according to the British Phonographic Industry report released in early January. According to the agency, sales of cassette tapes increased by 94.7% in the last 12 months in the United Kingdom, with 156,542 units sold, representing the highest volume sold since 2003.
This data is a reflection of the several releases by big names in the music industry that occurred in the last two years, giving new impetus to the format. This was the highest percentage reached by cassette tapes in the last 17 years, according to BPI.
The UK's best-selling cassette in 2020 was Chromatica by Lady Gaga - 14,000 copies in this format. Among the representatives of classic rock, Ozzy Osbourne, with Ordinary Man, was the one who got the best result, reaching 17th position in K7 sales.
