Clube de Regatas do Flamengo, or simply Flamengo (popularly known as Mengo, Mengão, and Fla) is a Brazilian multi-sport club based in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Founded in the Flamengo neighborhood, it has become one of the most successful and popular clubs in Brazilian sports, especially soccer.
Its traditional colors are red and black, and its mascot is a "urubu". The team's shield has undergone several changes since its foundation, in 1895. Initially it was composed of elements related to rowing, the main sport at the time, but after all the changes, there are no more elements of the sport.
Currently, the shield contains the initials CRF (Clube de Regatas do Flamengo) stylized in the upper left corner and eight black and red stripes distributed horizontally. The original Flamengo colors were blue and yellow gold, but had to be replaced because the imported fabrics faded easily in water.
