Clube Atlético Mineiro, known simply as Atlético or Galo, is a Brazilian soccer club based in the city of Belo Horizonte, in the state of Minas Gerais, founded on March 25, 1908 by a group of students. Besides soccer, the club has had great achievements in volleyball, athletics, and futsal.
The club's traditional colors are black and white. Its shield has been used since 1922, with few alterations until the one currently in use, composed of the acronym CAM and a yellow star, which represents the 1st Brazilian Championship.
Its most popular symbol and nickname is the Galo, the official mascot in the late 1930s, created by the cartoonist Fernando Pierucetti, known as Mangabeira. In 2005, the character O Galo Doido (Crazy Rooster) was created, which now accompanies Atlético's games.
