Tattoos of former President Lula

Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, better known as Lula, was born in Garanhuns, in 1945. He is a former trade unionist, former metalworker, former president, and current candidate for the presidency of Brazil, again affiliated to the PT (Workers' Party). The Workers' Party is a voluntary association of citizens who propose to fight for democracy, plurality, solidarity, political, social, institutional, economic, juridical, and cultural transformations, destined to eliminate exploitation, domination, oppression, inequality, injustice, and misery, with the objective of building democratic socialism" (PT Statute, Article 1).

Known for his union struggles, he led major strikes of workers, helped found the PT (Workers' Party), and was one of the major leaders of the Diretas Já movement, during the country's redemocratization period.

Considered one of the most popular politicians in Brazil and the world, his mandate between 2003 and 2011 is characterized by economic stability and consolidation of social programs.
