Achilles was a great warrior in Greek mythology, one of the participants in the "Trojan War", the protagonist and greatest warrior in Homer's famous work, Iliad.
He was the son of Peleus and Thetis, who plunged him into the river Stipe to make him immortal, holding him by the heels, which thus became the only vulnerable part of his body. After many years of battles, Achilles died after being shot by a poisoned arrow that hit his heel. For this reason, the popular expression Achilles' heel is still used today to represent the weak and vulnerable point of something or someone.
Achilles' name can be interpreted as a combination of "mourning", "people", "tribe", "nation", etc. Simply put, Achilles would be a personification of the mourning people. Achilles' role as a mourning hero forms a contrast to the conventional war hero.
After his death, he received his just reward for a lifetime of heroic deeds and fighting. Zeus, at the request of Thetis, led him to the island of the blessed. There he married and had a winged son, Euphorion, the morning breeze.
