Meaning of Selene (Greek moon goddess) tattoos

Selene, or Selena, is considered the personification of moon in Greek culture. She is the sister of Helios, the personification of sunand of Eos, personification of the dawn. In Roman culture, Selene is equivalent to the myth of Luna.

From his name came the academic term ?selenolatry?, which talks about worship, cults and gods linked to the moon, regardless of place of origin.

The goddess is also associated with the sacred seed or seed of life, and is considered the goddess of fertility. She is known to have had several love affairs, and in one of these relationships she had as many as fifty children, according to myths.

She is usually depicted as a young woman, with a pale face, a bright crescent-shaped aureole, white clothes, sometimes with wings and sometimes in a cart pulled by bulls or white horses.

Her abilities involve the phases of the moon, femininity, inspiration for love, easing labor pains, and creating or breaking illusions.
