Yeshua is a word of Hebrew origin, a language that existed between 2000 B.C. and 1500 B.C. in the place where Israel is located today.
Some scholars say that this was considered the original name of Jesus Christ, but there is still controversy, since it is believed that the language spoken in the land where Jesus lived was Aramaic. Even today, many religious people use this name to refer to him, including in hymns and sermons.
Its literal translation is ?save?, very similar to Yeshuah, meaning ?salvation?, also derived from Yehoshua, which translates as ?God saves? and Yeshua Hamashia, meaning Jesus Christ, the Messiah.
Even with the reference to the Aramaic language, the Gospels were all written in Greek. The word Yeshua was translated to ?Iesou? or ?Iesous? Latin as ?Iesus? and soon after Jesus, as we know it today.
